The Game Awards 2024 gave Slay the Spire 2 its biggest stage yet: a brand-new trailer showcasing fresh cards and new characters, with Mega Crit confirming the plan to open Early Access in 2025.
The trailer was the first moving look at the sequel's expanded roster in motion — the new and returning classes, the reworked enemies, and the bosses guarding the second climb. By then the engine story was already public: the sequel had traded Unity for open-source Godot, a decision the studio tied to player-facing benefits like modding headroom.
The original Slay the Spire (2019) had defined the deckbuilding roguelike with its blend of turn-based combat and card-driven runs, and TGA's audience responded accordingly — the sequel's trailer became one of the show's most-shared indie reveals.
The 2025 window, as with the original announcement, was still a promise rather than a date. The final schedule: a delay to March 2026 (announced that September), then the March 5, 2026 launch — with two of the trailer's teased newcomers, the Necrobinder and the Regent, headlining the roster reveal season that followed.
