Top Players Call the Silent 'Concerningly Strong' After Launch

Former top-five original-spire player JapaneseExport — 10,000+ hours logged — called the Silent 'undeniably the strongest' Slay the Spire 2 character at launch, with discard synergy and early damage out of line.

Two days into Early Access, the first credible balance verdict landed — from a credible mouth. JapaneseExport, a player claiming top-five world ranking and 10,000+ hours in the original spire, published his assessment of Slay the Spire 2's launch meta, and the headline was a warning: the Silent was "undeniably the strongest character" — strong to the point of "worrying."

The reasoning, in his read of the early meta:

  • Discard-synergy cards overperformed. The Silent's discard package generated too much value per card, letting her cycle key pieces far faster than the draft economy intended.
  • Early damage came too easy. One reliable damage card — any of several — covered most of the early game, which meant she could skip card rewards entirely, banking gold and avoiding deck pollution while other classes were still forced to draft.
  • The floor was too high for too little effort. Strong classes are supposed to need a plan; launch Silent didn't especially need one.

The community's broader consensus matched the shape of the take — the Silent was the launch's consensus strongest, with the discard package the usual suspect. (Our Silent builds show why: the draw engines and free-value packages really are that good.) Subsequent patches took repeated swings at the package, and by the 0.105 meta read the class had cooled from "worrying" to merely excellent.
