Slay the Spire 2 Announced — Early Access Slated for 2025

April 2024: Mega Crit announced Slay the Spire 2 with an animated teaser, confirming the legendary deckbuilding roguelike would return — initially targeting an Early Access launch in 2025.

The original Slay the Spire, first released in 2019, built its enormous fanbase on a then-novel combination: Roguelite runs, turn-based combat, and deckbuilding where every card pick compounds. Critics credited it with inventing a genre — the announcement coverage itself quoted the consensus that the original "encourages experimentation, gives you time to make mistakes," climbing floor by floor.

The teaser promised the sequel would carry the formula forward with new and returning classes, new enemies, and new bosses — and, in a detail that became the story's footnote, a brand-new engine underneath it all (that engine choice became its own news story days later).

As it happened, the 2025 window slipped: the launch eventually landed on March 5, 2026 (see the delay announcement and the launch date reveal). But this announcement was the moment the sequel became real — the first look at the second climb.
