The 0.105 Sword Sage rework explained: Sovereign Blade now gains Replay 1 instead of an extra hit — why the Regent's Forge decks got stronger, and how Replay chains with Parry.

The 0.105 patch quietly rebuilt one of the Regent's best cards. Sword Sage (Rare Power, cost 2 (1)) no longer makes the Sovereign Blade hit an additional time — instead, it reads: "Sovereign Blade gains Replay 1." One word changed, and the whole Forge playbook got faster.

Old versus new

  • Old Sword Sage: "Sovereign Blade now hits an additional time." A damage multiplier on each swing — strong, but only when you were already swinging.
  • New Sword Sage: "Sovereign Blade gains Replay 1." Replay is the keyword that repeats a card's effect extra times — and unlike a hit-count boost, it stacks with every other blade enhancer in the kit.

The official patch notes call out the new synergy by name: Sword Sage now combos with Parry (the Power that grants the Sovereign Blade bonus Block). Replay multiplies the Parry-boosted swings too — blade damage and blade Block, replayed together.

Why Replay beats an extra hit

  1. It multiplies Forge scaling. The Sovereign Blade's damage is Forged up over a combat; a Replay re-triggers the current, fully-scaled value. An extra hit was linear; Replay compounds with every Forge card you've played.
  2. It loves cheap blades. Apotheosis-style effects that cut the Blade's cost make replayed casts nearly free.
  3. It stacks with the kit. Seeking Edge (Blade hits ALL enemies), Sword Sage's Replay, and Parry's Block now all layer on the same swing.

How to use the new Sage

Cast Sword Sage before your Forge turn: Forge (or Summon Forth, which Forges 8 (11) on arrival), then swing — the Replay replays the boosted blade immediately. On turns where the Blade is Retained in hand, the sequencing stays the same: Sage first, swing second, and the second swing rides for free.

The rework also nudged the Regent's identity: less "one enormous blade," more "a blade that keeps coming back." Forge decks were already strong; now they end fights before the Block-reliant plans need to.
