Slay the Spire 2 Blade-Poison Hybrid — Knife Trap Burst with Envenom
Published 2026-03-09Updated 2026-09-196 min read
The Silent hybrid that kills twice: Knife Trap replays every Shiv from your exhaust pile upgraded, Envenom turns each hit into poison, and Joss Paper keeps the hand flowing.
The blade-poison hybrid wins the argument between shiv players and poison players by refusing to choose: shivs land the hits, and every unblocked hit applies poison through Envenom. The finale is Knife Trap — "Upgrade and play every Shiv in your Exhaust Pile on the enemy" — which converts a whole game's worth of spent knives into one upgraded firing squad.

The engine core
- Knife Trap (Uncommon) — (Upgraded:) upgrade and play every Shiv in your Exhaust Pile against one enemy. A late-game card: the longer the fight, the bigger the exhaust pile, the harder this hits — hundreds of damage from a single line.
- Envenom (Power, Rare) — whenever an Attack deals unblocked damage, apply 1 (2) Poison. Every shiv hit now stacks poison on the target — even the replayed ones.
- Accuracy (Power) — Shivs deal +4 (6). Feeds both halves: shiv hits get bigger, poison gets applied more reliably past Block.
The trigger multipliers
- Pen Nib (relic) — every 10th Attack deals double damage. Knife Trap's replay counts toward it; time your tenth attack for the Trap.
- Nunchaku (Uncommon relic) — every 10 Attacks played grants 1 energy. High-volume shiv turns refuel the loop.
- Joss Paper (relic) — every 5 cards Exhausted, draw 1. Exhausted shivs become card advantage instead of a cost.
- Serpent Form (Power) — deal 4 (6) to a random enemy whenever you play a card. Volume turns into board damage while you wait for the Trap.
Filling the exhaust pile on purpose
- Fan of Knives — 4 (5) Shivs, all enemies hit. Generate and damage at once.
- Blade Dance — add 3 (4) Shivs, Exhaust. The Exhaust is a feature in this build: spent shivs are stored ammunition.
- Cloak and Dagger — 6 Block, add 1 (2) Shivs. Every defensive turn still loads the pile.
- Storm of Steel (Rare) — discard your hand, add 1 Shiv (upgraded: Shiv+) per card discarded. Turns surplus hands into pile fodder.
Turn template
- Build: shiv generation plus Accuracy early; spend attacks normally, Expose armored targets.
- Scale: Envenom online; every hit now applies poison — big shiv turns apply most of a boss's death bar on their own.
- Cash: Knife Trap replays the entire exhaust pile upgraded, into Pen Nib if you can line it up — one enemy takes the whole armory, then chokes on the poison it applied.
The hybrid's strength is that it never has a dead reward: shiv cards, poison cards and exhaust payoffs all push the same plan. Its weakness is range — before Knife Trap and Envenom are both online, it is a slower shiv deck, so route defensively in early Act 1 and shop for the two engines.
