Slay the Spire 2 Storm — Power Card Effect, Stacking Rules Explained

Storm in Slay the Spire 2: whenever you play a Power card, Channel X Lightning orbs. Stacking rules, orb-slot replacement, and the Defect decks that abuse it.

Storm is a stacking Defect state with one of the cleanest payoffs in the game: "Whenever you play a Power card, Channel X Lightning" — where X is the number of Storm stacks you carry. Every Power you cast becomes a Lightning orb; every extra stack makes that fire rate climb.

How the trigger works

  • Trigger condition: playing any Power card — rarity and effect don't matter, only the card type.
  • Per-card triggers: each Power played fires the effect independently; a turn with three Powers means three Storm procs.
  • Orb-slot replacement: the new Lightning fills the first open slot; when slots are full, the new orb replaces the leftmost orb and triggers its passive on the way out — free extra damage, not waste.
  • Storm is itself a Power: playing a second Storm first triggers your existing stacks, then adds its own — order matters in the good way.

What it is worth

Lightning orbs fire at a random enemy whenever their passive triggers, so Storm turns your Power suite into a passive damage engine: every buffs card you play is now also artillery. The pairs naturally:

  • Storm + cheap Powers — Powers that were already worth playing now generate orbs on top.
  • Storm + orb-slot expansion — more slots means more Lightning stacking before the replacement cycle starts.
  • Storm + evoke triggers — effects that evoke orbs convert the accumulated Lightning into burst.

Where it fits

Storm is the centerpiece of lightning-focused Defect builds — see our Focus and Lightning build for the full engine around it. The short version: everything the Defect already wanted to play (Powers) now also shoots the enemy.
