Slay the Spire 2 Wax Relics — Toy Box Ancient Relic Guide

Wax relics in Slay the Spire 2: how the Toy Box Ancient relic works — 5 wax relics that melt one every 3 combats, the left-most rule and synergies.

Wax relics are Slay the Spire 2's temporary relics: normal relics in wax form that melt away after a few combats. They come from a single source — the Toy Box, an Ancient relic offered by the Act 2 Ancient Tezcatara. Here's how the melting works, and how to squeeze a full run out of five candles.

Five wax relics. Every 3 combats, the left one melts. Order matters.

How Toy Box works

  • Rarity: Ancient (Tezcatara, Act 2) — shares a relic pool with Pumpkin Candle, Seal of Gold and the Golden Compass; only one of the four is offered per run
  • Effect: Upon pickup, obtain 5 Wax Relics. Every 3 combats, your left-most Wax Relic melts away, losing its effect
  • What wax relics are: recolored copies of regular relics (excluding Shop and Event relics) with the same effect as the normal version — they just burn out

The rules that matter

  1. You choose the order. On pickup you may skip relics and pick the order they sit in — the queue order is the melting order.
  2. The left-most melts every 3 combats. Fifteen combats of coverage at full strength, fading from the left.
  3. No duplicates. Toy Box takes the next 5 relics from your run's internal relic list — you can never own a Wax relic and its normal twin in the same run, and the melted counterparts won't reappear as rewards.
  4. Beta-status: the Toy Box is the newest Ancient relic (current patch era), so expect numbers to move between patches — as with all patch-era objects, check patch news after updates.

The on-pickup trick (the real reason it's strong)

Relics with on-pickup effects grant their bonus immediately — and melting doesn't claw it back. The wax copies of these are pure profit:

  • Potion Belt / Old Coin — extra slots and gold stay forever
  • Strawberry / Pear / Mango — permanent max HP
  • War Paint / Whetstone — permanent card upgrades

Order those to the left (melt first — you already banked the effect) and the combat-strength relics to the right (they last longest).

Should you take it?

Yes when: your build loves specific normal relics and you want five of them now — engine decks that scale with floor count.

Think twice when: the Compass (fixed map) or Pumpkin Candle is offered and your run wants those more; wax value decays, map control doesn't.
