Slay the Spire 2 Assassinate Build — Backstab Openers and Burst Windows

The Silent assassin build in Slay the Spire 2: innate Backstab and Neutralize openers, Tracking Weak synergy, Finisher payouts, and the shiv-and-burst window that deletes elites.

The assassinate build is the Silent as a contract killer: open the fight with damage the enemy never sees coming, apply Weak so their answers whiff, then cash one enormous Finisher window. Unlike the pure shiv decks, this is a tempo deck — fewer knives, each one aimed.

The Silent poised to strike in Slay the Spire 2
Innate damage on turn one, Weak on turn one, Finisher before turn three.

The opener package (innate damage)

  • Backstab (Uncommon) — Innate: it starts in your opening hand. 11 (15) damage, Exhaust. A free, guaranteed hit before the fight begins.
  • Neutralize (Basic) — 3 (4) damage and 1 (2) Weak. Your starter, and still the cheapest Weak application in the game.
  • Sucker Punch (Common) — 8 (10) damage, apply 1 (2) Weak. Extends the Weak coverage into later turns.

The multiplier package

  • Finisher (Uncommon) — deal 6 (8) damage for each Attack already played this turn. The build's namesake payoff: five attacks first means Finisher lands for 30-plus.
  • Tracking (Power, Rare) — Weak enemies take 50% more damage from Attacks. The reason every list below applies Weak.
  • Noxious Fumes (Power) — 2 (3) Poison to ALL enemies at the start of your turn. Passive chip that finishes whatever the burst misses.
  • Envenom (Power, Rare) — unblocked Attack hits apply 1 (2) Poison. Turns the attack volume into a second damage layer.

The knife base

You still want shiv generators — Blade Dance, Cloak and Dagger, Up My Sleeve — not as the win condition but as Finisher ammunition: each Shiv played counts toward Finisher's attack tally. Accuracy remains welcome; a +6 Shiv is a fine cheap attack.

The Weak engine

If Tracking is in the deck, Weak coverage is mandatory: Neutralize and Sucker Punch are the baseline, Leg Sweep (Weak + 11 (14) Block) doubles as the build's best defensive card, and Malaise (Rare) strips an elite's Strength while applying big Weak when X-cost energy lines up.

The kill window

  1. Turn one: Backstab fires automatically; Neutralize applies Weak; shiv generation sets the tally.
  2. Turn two: more attacks into the Weakened target, Tracking multiplying everything; Noxious Fumes and Envenom stack the exit wound.
  3. The window: Finisher — attack count times 6 (8), doubled by the target's Weak through Tracking, with poison already ticking underneath. Elites die inside this window; bosses lose a quarter of their bar per cycle.

The deck's discipline is patience with rewards: shiv generators, Weak coverage and the three Powers are the shopping list. A flashy rare attack that doesn't attack multiple times, apply Weak, or generate shivs is someone else's build.
