Slay the Spire 2 Ironclad Exhaust Enchant Engine — Burn for Strength

Published 2026-03-09Updated 2026-09-195 min read

The Ironclad exhaust engine in Slay the Spire 2: Rupture turns every self-burn into Strength, Feel No Pain turns it into block, Fiend Fire cashes the pile in, and Enchantments multiply the payoffs.

Exhaust decks sound like a contradiction — win by destroying your own cards? — but the Ironclad's burn package is one of Early Access's most satisfying engines: Rupture pays you Strength for every HP you burn, Feel No Pain pays block for every card exhausted, and Fiend Fire turns the whole hand into one final detonation. Slay the Spire 2's new Enchantment system adds a fresh layer on top.

A mystical event scene in Slay the Spire 2
Every card you burn is Strength in the bank and Block in the pocket.

The payoffs

  • Rupture (Power, 1) — whenever you lose HP on your turn, gain 1 (2) Strength. The engine's profit center; every self-damage card now scales you.
  • Feel No Pain (Power, 1) — whenever a card is Exhausted, gain 3 (4) Block. The exhaust pile becomes a shield generator.
  • Fiend Fire (2, Rare) — Exhaust your entire hand; deal 7 (10) damage per card Exhausted. The finisher: a full hand at the right moment is 50+ damage from one card.
  • Corruption (Power, 3, Ancient rarity) — all Skills cost 0, but every Skill played Exhausts. Insane acceleration if your skills are the payload.

The fuel

  • Bloodletting (0) — lose 3 HP, gain 2 (3) energy. Draws a card's worth of Rupture Strength for free.
  • Hemokinesis (1) — lose 2 HP, deal 15 (20). A burn card that is already a real attack.
  • Offering (0, Rare) — lose 6 HP, gain 2 energy, draw 3 (5), Exhaust. Burst-draw that stacks Strength through Rupture on the way.
  • Burning Pact (1) — Exhaust 1 card, draw 2 (3). Compression that feeds Feel No Pain.
  • Second Wind (1) — Exhaust all non-Attacks in hand, gain 5 (7) Block each. Defense, thinning, and Feel No Pain triggers in one line.
  • Forgotten Ritual (1) — gain 3 (4) energy, Exhaust. The burst-turn starter.

The Enchantment layer

Slay the Spire 2's Enchantment system adds modifiers to specific cards in your deck — event and enemy rewards like the Symbiote's Corrupted enchant (an attack deals 50% more damage but costs 2 HP) slot perfectly here: the extra HP loss is free Strength through Rupture. When an enchant choice appears, prefer the option on a card you exhaust or replay often; the enchant survives even though the card may not.

Running it

  1. Rupture first. Every other card in the deck is fuel; the Power that converts fuel to Strength is the build.
  2. Burn on schedule, not all at once. Spread Bloodletting/Hemokinesis across turns so Feel No Pain's block keeps arriving.
  3. Count your hand before Fiend Fire. Ten damage per card means a six-card hand is a boss bar; don't fire it on a three-card hand.
  4. Respect the exhaust pile. What is gone is gone — block effects and Battle Trance-style draw spikes should be spent before you burn them.

The deck's rhythm — burn, scale, wall up, detonate — carries it through elite fights that would bully a plain attack deck, and Corruption turns the late game into a slot machine that always pays.
