What Is Slay the Spire 2? Everything You Need to Know
Slay the Spire 2 is Mega Crit's roguelike deckbuilder sequel: Steam Early Access since March 5, 2026, $24.99, 4-player online co-op, five characters. Full overview.
Slay the Spire 2 is the sequel to Mega Crit's genre-defining roguelike deckbuilder. It launched into Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026 at $24.99, developed and published by Mega Crit, and is playable on PC (Windows, macOS and Linux) with Steam Deck Verified status. This page is the fast overview; the build- and patch-level detail lives in the guide sections.
What's New Compared to the First Game
Slay the Spire 2 keeps the core loop — climb a spire, draft a deck, fight turn-based card battles — and adds a set of genuinely new systems:
- Four-player online co-op. The flagship new feature: the first game in the series with online co-op, and all five characters are playable in it. See our Co-op & Multiplayer page.
- Two new characters. Alongside returning favorites Ironclad, Silent and Defect, Early Access debuts the Regent (a star-forging sovereign) and the Necrobinder (a lich who fights alongside a giant skeletal hand named Osty).
- New mechanics per character. Doom (a death-mark that executes enemies), Stars (a second resource pool that carries over between turns), Forge (a signature weapon you buff all run) and Summon all change how deckbuilding works.
- Enchantments. Cards can carry enchantments — effects that sit at the bottom of the card and trigger under conditions like "first time you play this card," which opens combo lines that did not exist in the first game.
- Branching Act variants. Acts come in variants such as Underdocks and Overgrowth, with different elites, events and bosses, so two runs feel less alike.
Early Access Status
The game is content-complete enough to review and play for hundreds of hours, but still growing. Mega Crit ships beta patches roughly every two weeks, mixing balance changes, new art and UI work; the beta branch periodically graduates to the main branch. What that means for you:
- Balance moves patch to patch — check the Patch Notes page before locking in a build.
- Some systems (console versions, the full 1.0 scope) are not finalized yet — see Release Date & Platforms.
The Reception, Honestly
Slay the Spire 2 is simultaneously one of the most-played games of its launch window and a "Mixed" Steam review — the result of two review-bomb waves around balance and communication, not a dead game. The numbers and the full story are on the Reviews & Reception page.
