Lightning Build — Slay the Spire 2 Build Guide
Big Zap Lightning build for the Defect in Slay the Spire 2: core cards, relics and step-by-step strategy.
The Lightning aggro route — Ball Lightning, Thunder and Storm clear acts before the enemies set up.
Big Zap (Lightning Aggro)
Play pattern: the most offensive playstyle — flood Lightning, double it with Powers, and Evoke everything. Storm Channels Lightning whenever you play a Power (upgrade: 2; two Storms means 4 per Power), Thunder's Evoke hits for 12 and effectively doubles your Lightning damage, and Voltaic instantly Evokes excess Orbs as the finisher.
Core cards:
| Card | Cost | Effect | Why it earns a slot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ball Lightning | — | 7 damage, Channel 1 Lightning | With Focused Strike, the S-tier of early damage cards |
| Focused Strike | 1 | 9 damage, gain 1 Focus this turn | Effectively 10+ damage off your starting Lightning; "probably the best early game damage card" |
| Lightning Rod | — | A little Block plus Lightning generation ("two lightnings out of it") | A Lightning per turn from one card; "very impressed" |
| Thunder | — | Big Evoke damage (12 per the video) | "The best early game card you could ask for" — upgrade it and it nearly solves Act 1 |
| Storm | — | Channel Lightning whenever you play a Power (upgrade: 2) | Stacked Storms turn every Power into a Lightning flood |
| Barrage | 1 | Damage per Orb filled: 15 damage, 21 upgraded; ~40 with Capacitor/Modded | Strongest damage card in a vacuum — but it needs Orb setup first |
| Tesla Coil | — | ~9 damage for 0 Energy with two Lightning Orbs; scales with Focus and slots | Free damage that grows with the build |
| Shatter | 1 | 11 damage to all enemies and Evoke all your Orbs | All upside in Lightning/Glass decks — a lot of damage for one Energy |
| Voltaic | — | Excess Orbs are instantly Evoked | The late-game finisher that cashes in a full rack |
| Hyper Beam | — | Heavy damage that costs you Focus | Great in Act 1; play it right before lethal — losing Focus permanently weakens your Orbs, and ~80% of builds care about them |
Relics: Metronome is the standout — this deck Channels constantly, making it "free AoE 30 damage" — plus Emotion Chip.
How to pilot it: take Orb-fillers (Ball Lightning, Lightning Rod) before payoffs like Barrage; stack Storm and Thunder; treat Hyper Beam as a finisher, not an opener, unless your deck ignores Orbs.
Strengths and weaknesses: the highest tempo in the kit; shares the weaker burst ceiling, and spamming Orbs at the wrong time wastes payoffs.
