Slay the Spire 2 Builds & Tier List (September 2026)

Current Slay the Spire 2 tier list snapshot: character rankings, S-tier cards per class, best builds and every boss from Act 1 to Act 3, patched to v0.107+.

The short version of the Slay the Spire 2 tier list (September 2026): Silent and Defect rate highest for consistency, Ironclad is the beginner pick, Necrobinder has the highest ceiling with the lowest HP, and Regent is the most polarizing — loaded with S-tier cards and D-tier filler at the same time. Every ranking carries the same warning: this is Early Access, patches land bi-weekly, and tier lists get rewritten with them. Treat what follows as a dated snapshot (Mobalytics card tiers, updated August 12, 2026), not gospel.

Core Mechanics in 60 Seconds

  • Energy funds your cards (default 3/turn); Block absorbs damage but vanishes at end of turn unless a power says otherwise; Exhaust removes a card for the fight — the game's core resource tension.
  • Statuses: Vulnerable (+50% damage taken), Weak (−25% damage dealt), Poison (triangle-number DoT that ticks at enemy-turn start), plus STS2-new keywords like Sly (discard = play), Doom (kill at turn-end if Doom ≥ HP), Stars, Forge, Summon, Ethereal.
  • Upgrades at rest sites, removal in shops — deck quality beats deck size; guides across all classes converge on "thin early, scale later."
  • Ascension 1–10 is the endgame difficulty ladder; at A10 the Act 3 boss becomes a double boss fight (floor 48 + 49 back-to-back, no rest between).

Character Tier List — Where the Community Lands

Reddit meta post after patch v0.107.0 (June 2026) Necrobinder ("strongest hero... all her builds balanced") post split by preference
Steam forum consensus comments (spring 2026) Silent + Ironclad ("best scaling, easiest climb") contested

The honest read: nobody agrees, and that's the balance team's current project. Early on, Silent's Sly engine looked untouchable (guides suspected imminent nerfs, and Acrobatics was indeed moved from common to uncommon on the beta branch); mid-2026 buffs (Sic 'Em, The Scythe, Monarch's Gaze cost cut in v0.107.0; "huge Ironclad changes" in v0.111.0) were explicitly aimed at spreading the field. For a first pick: Ironclad to learn, Silent or Defect to climb.

S-Tier Cards Right Now (Mobalytics, Aug 12 2026)

Mobalytics' preliminary card tier list rates cards that are "almost always positive at any time" and "run-defining"; multiplayer-only cards are excluded. A taste of each class's S tier:

Character S-Tier Examples
Ironclad Offering, Dominate, Bloodletting, Colossus, Inferno, Pact's End, Crimson Mantle, Unmovable
Silent Adrenaline, Well-Laid Plans, Afterimage, Tools of the Trade, The Hunt, Footwork, Blade of Ink, Calculated Gamble
Defect Echo Form, Defragment, Shatter, Glacier, Null, Machine Learning, Genetic Algorithm, Trash to Treasure
Regent Big Bang, Reflect, Child of the Stars, Pillar of Creation, Convergence, Guards, Bulwark, Meteor Shower
Necrobinder Demesne, Friendship, Neurosurge, Call of the Void, Sleight of Flesh, Putrefy, Danse Macabre, Lethality

Best Builds per Class (What the Guides Actually Say)

Ironclad — Strength & Exhaust bruiser. Stack Strength through exhaust payoffs; self-damage cards (Bloodletting family) buy tempo that Burning Blood heals back. Highest HP (80) makes it the most forgiving climb.

Silent — three interchangeable lanes. (1) Sly value decks: bank discard enablers (Tools of the Trade, Prepared, Acrobatics) to play Sly cards for free — guides call this "the best build on the character, full stop." (2) Shiv spam: Fan of Knives/Up My Sleeve generators into Knife Trap payoffs, with Shuriken/Kunai relics as run-defining enablers. (3) Poison inevitability: Noxious Fumes plus survival — 10 poison on a boss is ~55 damage for free, and upgrades "add way more than the numbers suggest" (7→10 Snake Bite nearly doubles total damage).

Defect — orbs and Focus. Channel Lightning/Frost/Dark/Glass/Plasma, store them with Focus for amplified outputs; guides rate it the most consistently "on plan" class, with post-combat healing as its unique safety net.

Regent — bank Stars, land one nuke. Radiate (damage per Star gained this turn) or Stardust with Royal Gamble/Genesis fuel, plus Vigor stacking (Pattern, Terraforming) to multiply the blast; "star goodstuff" (Void Form makes two cards a turn free; Child of the Stars converts Stars into block) is the beginner-friendly version. Forge/Sovereign Blade works but every guide marks it as the weakest archetype needing tuning.

Necrobinder — engine first. Generate Souls (Capture Spirit, Severance, Dirge), cheat energy with Borrowed Time/Neurosurge, and cash out via Soul Storm/Haunt or Osty attack chains (Sic 'Em + Rattle + Flatten). Doom is widely rated "not an archetype you should scale into" yet — guides expect a rework.

On "infinite" decks: pre-patch, loop decks could trivialize A9–A10; the spring 2026 nerfs made them hard to assemble — this exact balance fight spawned the review-bomb episode (covered in our FAQ). Infinites still exist; they just cost real draft discipline now.

Every Boss (Wiki, Updated Post-v0.107.1)

Act Floor Bosses
Act 1 — Overgrowth 17 Ceremonial Beast, The Kin, Vantom
Act 1 — Underdocks 17 Waterfall Giant, Soul Fysh, Lagavulin Matriarch
Act 2 33 The Insatiable, Knowledge Demon, Kaiser Crab
Act 3 48 Queen, Test Subject, Aeonglass (replaced the Doormaker boss in v0.107.1)
Act 3 (A10 only) 49 A second, different Act 3 boss immediately after the first

Notes: every boss room is preceded by a rest site (except the A10 second boss); boss rewards are 100 gold (75 from Ascension 3 up), a choice of three rare cards, and an Ancient who heals you and offers three unique relics. In co-op, each act runs one floor shorter (bosses on 16 / 31 / 45). The Insatiable, floor 33, is the community's recurring "wall" — and a famous target for infinite-turn kills.

Quest Spotlight: The Lantern Key

The Lantern Key is the run-spanning quest item that trips up most first-time Hive visitors:

  1. In the Hive region, an event offers you a glowing key: Return the Key for 100 gold, or Keep the Key and fight the Mysterious Knight.
  2. Winning yields the Lantern Key card, which unlocks a special event later.
  3. That's the Act 3 event "War Historian, Repy" — spending the key there completes the questline.

Guides' rule of thumb: take the fight if your deck is combat-ready by the Hive (a free extra boss reward); take the gold if your HP is already committed elsewhere.

How to Use Any Tier List (Including This One)

Tier authors themselves say it: rankings score average flexibility, not your specific run — a C-tier answer to the boss in front of you beats an S-tier card that dilutes your deck. Contextual examples from the guides: Blade Dance "sadly exhausts now" but that makes it nearly free to draft; Ricochet scales from A-tier to broken the moment you own a Strength relic; Haze is S-tier from Act 1 onward only if you're running discard enablers. Skim the tier, then play the run in front of you — and re-check rankings after each bi-weekly patch, because in this Early Access, last month's S tier is next month's "nerfed into obscurity" story.
